Nicola Cavallaro was born in Calabria Italy. Mary Gulli Cavallaro born was born in Naples Italy. Nicola was a sheepherder in the mountains of Calabria. He had 5 brothers. Of all of Mary and Nicola’s 10 children only one Teresa Cavallaro was born in Italy. The name Cavallaro means (Brave Horseman)
When Nicola Cavallaro came to the United States in or around 1905 he purchased a farm in Lordship Ct. Around 1915 the main house burnt down and Nicola sold the property for about the sum of $3800.00.The property which became the location Which is now known as Avco's? He then purchased a small farm on Congress St. in Fairfield, Ct. and continued to raise his family. When his wife Maria died in 1930 he sent for Mary in Italy. When she arrived they got married in or around 1931, he then sold the farm around the early 50's and moved to the east side of Bridgeport, Ct. were he spent his last years, till he died in 1963. Nicola Cavallaro had five brothers, but at this time we could not find out any information about them. We do know that three of his brothers came to the United States, one went to Hamilton Ontario, Canada and another went to Argentina
